All-natural health products sold in Canada are subject to the Natural Health Products Regulations which came into effect in January 2004. The regulations provide Canadians with access to safe, effective, high quality natural health products which are licensed by Health Canada. To be legally sold in Canada, all natural health products must have a product license, and the Canadian sites that manufacture, package, label and import these products must also have site licenses.
To get product and site licenses, specific labelling and packaging requirements must be met, good manufacturing practices must be followed, and proper safety and efficacy evidence must be provided. Nature’s Way products are approved by Health Canada. Find out more about the Natural Health Products Regulations.
As always, it is important to consult your health care practitioner before taking any natural health products, especially if you are taking medication, have any health conditions, are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Nature’s Way has 4 types of herbal products from which you can choose; whole herbs, herbal combinations, standardized extracts, and specialized.
- Whole herbs are just that. They contain all the components of the plant. Keep in mind, there are environmental factors that may cause variations in the end products. These factors may include weather, soil quality and time of harvest. Nature’s Way whole herb products are easily recognizable by their green lids.
- Herbal combinations are a combination of 2 or more herbs. Our combination formulas are packaged with purple lids.
- Standardized extract ensures that the active ingredients are isolated in specific, guaranteed amounts. This allows for greater consistency in the product from one bottle to the next. Nature’s Way standardized extracts and herbal combinations are found in the bottles with the purple lids.
- Specialized products include natural health products with specialized formulations. Nature’s Way specialized products are found in the bottles with the grey lids.
Pure Check is a program through which the consumer can see third party test results pertaining to the potency and purity of the lot of their product. Products with the Pure Check symbol have been tested against label claims to ensure that consumers know exactly what they’re getting. All test results are published online to ensure full transparency. Visit Pure Check.
The gelatin in Nature’s Way herbal products is bovine and porcine. For our plant-based customers, Nature’s Way also produces some vegetarian friendly capsules as well.
Fortify Shelf Stable probiotics are not freeze dried or enteric coated. These products are shelf stable because of the probiotic strains chosen and the amount of CFUs originally encapsulated in a vial, which has a superior desiccant system to minimize water activity.
To assure quality and safety, all potential suppliers are subjected to an extensive sourcing program before a material is considered for use. This program is initiated with a formal vendor quality evaluation that provides critical regulatory, processing, and safety information. Some of the information required includes regulatory status, material source, processing steps, quality, purity, and stability. This information is reviewed by our Quality Assurance department. Any supplier who does not meet our quality standards is not accepted as a vendor. That is, we will not purchase material from them.
Nature’s Way maintains stringent raw material quality specifications for potency, microbiological, and purity tests. Raw material is monitored by our dedicated quality team to ensure only the highest quality raw materials are used in our products. We monitor and test each lot purchased to ensure that quality is maintained.
Yes, many of our products are sourced from and made in Canada. Specifically, our liquid Omega-3 products: NutraSea and NutraVege products are all manufactured in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Our Alive! Multivitamin Gummies are made in Prince Edward Island and our Coconut and MCT Oils are manufactured in Saskatchewan.
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that we must get from the diet for good health. The health benefits commonly associated with omega-3 are primarily attributed to the longer-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Dietary sources of these two fatty acids are seafood and marine fatty fish such as anchovies, sardines, mackerel or fish oil supplements and algal oil supplements. Algal oil can be a direct source of EPA and DHA, making it an ideal source for vegetarians or those who prefer a plant-based source.
Liquid NutraSea products must be stored in the refrigerator after being opened. The product will last up to 100 days if these instructions are followed. We cannot guarantee the quality of our liquid products if they go unrefrigerated. However, our softgel products are an alternative for people looking for items that don’t require refrigeration. These products should be stored in original packaging and protected from light after opening.
As long as the bottle is unopened, the summer heat (up to 40C/104F) will not compromise the integrity of the product. We recommend storing the bottles as directed (room temperature when unopened) once they arrive at their shipping destination.
Fish oils in our NutraSea Omega-3 products are sourced from wild, cold-water fish caught in the:
- • Pacific Ocean - off the coast of Chile and Peru
- • Eastern Atlantic Ocean - off the coast of Africa
- • Mediterranean Sea
- • Northern Atlantic Ocean - off the coast of Norway
- • Southwestern Atlantic Ocean - off the coast of South America
None of our products use farmed fish. Our fish oil is certified by Friend of the Sea. We also have MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certification for our NutraSea Cod product. We proudly manufacture the NutraSea Liquid Omega-3 products in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and source other ingredients from the USA and Japan.
Nature’s Way uses naturally derived flavours in all NutraSea products. These natural flavours can come from a variety of sources, such as plants, roots, fruits, vegetables, and spices.
The green tea extract in our liquid omega-3 products are used as an oil stabilizer to prevent oxidation, and not as a dietary source of green tea catechins. Our liquid omega-3 products with green tea antioxidant contain less than 5 mcg of caffeine per serving.
The source of vitamin D3 in NutraSea+D is lanolin from sheep’s wool and in NutraVege+D it’s lichen.
All of our NutraSea and NutraVege liquid and softgel supplements contain omega-3 in the triglyceride form.
Our softgels are made from bovine gelatin, glycerin and purified water.
Yes, NutraVege products are plant-based omega-3 supplements from algae that are ideal for vegetarians or those who simply prefer a plant-based omega-3.
No, while our NutraVege products are vegetarian and vegan friendly, these products are not currently certified vegan. We are in the process of exploring vegan certification requirements.
At the recommended dose, NutraSea and NutraSea+D are safe to consume during pregnancy and while nursing. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutrients that are important for the maintenance of good health of the general population as well as expectant mothers.
We also offer an omega-3 supplement formulated for prenatal health – our NutraVege Prenatal Targeted Omega-3 helps support a healthy pregnancy as well as neural and vision development in an infant when used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
We always recommend consulting with a health care provider to determine which natural health products are appropriate for them during this life stage.
The white, cloudy sediment that can sometimes be found in bottles of fish oil occurs when the oil is kept cold in a refrigerator. The cold temperatures create the cloudiness or sediment that you may see in your bottle; this is typical of supplements containing fatty acids and is also commonly seen with many cooking oils. It is completely normal and does not affect the quality of the product. In fact, slight temperature changes such as moving it to a different part of the fridge or when taking it out to use can resolve it.
We no longer offer a pet-focused product lineup. For details on where you can purchase omega-3 supplements for cats and dogs, please visit Baie Run’s website at: https://baierun.com/
